November 2002
Procurement of BluePacks has begun, and war widows will soon begin assembling them.
AED is getting a list of Afghanistan schools that have not been given school materials so distribution plans for the first 130,000 BluePacks can be finalized.

October 2002
The AED team met with the Ministry of Education, which was very pleased with our efforts, especially that we would try to purchase as much as possible in Afghanistan. The minister suggested that we include a thermos to carry clean drinking water, a coloring book, and more notebooks and pens instead of the "takhti" board.
AED and the Ministry of Education are interviewing Afghan war widows for jobs assembling the BluePacks before production begins.
September 2002
AED hired Sara Amiryar, who will be working in the Kabul office to direct The BluePack Project. Other team members include Zahid Afridi, AED Pakistan chief of party and John Gillies, AED senior program officer in Washington, D.C.
The Kabul market has improved considerably in the past few months; therefore, items that will be in the BluePacks are more readily available. There is also plenty of storage, work space, and production space with security.
